Co-operative
Education

Matawa Education and Care Centre’s Cooperative Education offers our students the opportunity to extend their learning outside of the classroom and into supervised placements around our community.

working together to make a change

exploring careers of interest

In cooperative education, students learn in safe, culturally responsive environments designed to recognize and respond to the diversity of our student population. The goal of this program is to place students in various community placements and assist them in gaining real-world work experience in an occupation or field of their interest. The placement component allows for students to enter the workforce while working towards obtaining high school credits. The program begins with in-classroom learning where students will connect the lessons at the school with their cooperative placement. The class time provides the students assistance with occupational research and guidance, along with post-secondary program exploration. Resume and cover letter building are embedded into this class curriculum, along with interview preparation to help prepare for potential career goals and job readiness. The students also gain a thorough understanding of workplace health and safety awareness along with worker rights and ethics before entering the placement. Cooperative education is a great and exciting program for students ready to explore a career or interest!
