Helping With The Next Step
The Matawa Post-Secondary program (MPS) receives direction from an Advisory Committee that consists of one (1) member from each participating Matawa First Nations (Webequie, Aroland, Long Lake #58, Neskantaga, and Ginoogaming). The MPS program currently has three (3) staff members to support post-secondary students: A Post-Secondary Coordinator, a Post-Secondary Student Support Worker (Year 2+, continuing education), and a Post-Secondary Transition Coach (Grade 12’s/first year post-secondary/transition support). MPS staff works to assist students with meeting their educational goals through various services and support. The MPS staff provides services to post-secondary students, such as: Locating various supports for post-secondary students (Academic, Mental Health/General wellness, tutoring support, and facilitating referrals, when applicable). Additionally, the MPS program provides updates and centralizes various opportunities for post-secondary students, such as: Funding opportunities, scholarship, and bursary applications and opportunities, Orientations, maintaining a monthly electronic newsletter, uploading and maintaining student files through DADAVAN, advocating and acting as a liaison between students, MPS Advisory Committee, Matawa First Nation communities, Post-Secondary institutes, referral agencies, and planning events for students in collaboration with other staff (i.e., Graduation and Awards banquets, Annual Christmas dinner, MPS Advisory Meetings, and other Committee Events).
