PASS coordinates a Northern Author Tour which brings Canadian authors into Matawa schools to speak to students about the importance of literacy. This program is created by the Writers’ Union of Canada who subsidizes a portion of the author’s fee and covers all travel and accommodation within Ontario. This fall, we hosted 2 authors who visited Matawa schools and spent a full day with students. Michael Kusugak, acclaimed Inuk story teller and author shared stories of his childhood traveling by dog sled and living a traditional Inuit lifestyle. Helaine Becker, author of more than 70 children’s books, entertained students with her readings.
